More Able and Gifted

At Warley Road, we provide provision for more able and gifted pupils, through a well-planned and differentiated curriculum, so that all children can be challenged to reach their potential.

In Reading, more able readers are offered a wide range of literature to continue to develop their reading skills and introduce them to new authors and genres. Year 6 children are also invited to join a Reading Challenge Club during lunchtimes where they are exposed to exciting text extracts and challenged to answer questions or even write about a topic linked to their reading.

In Maths, more able children are invited to a Stretch & Challenge Club with a Maths Specialist leader of Education. Here they are exposed to higher order reasoning and problem solving questions & challenges, such as a ‘Crime Scene Maths Mystery’, which not only deepens maths thinking but also develops children’s potential to achieve greater depth.

In Science we are currently taking part in the CREST Science Awards. The CREST Awards scheme is the British Science Association’s flagship programme for young people, providing science enrichment activities to inspire and engage 5-to-19-year olds. This award is led by a Science Specialist leader of Education.

It is the only nationally recognised accreditation scheme for project work in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) subjects. CREST gives students the chance to participate in hands-on science through investigations and enquiry-based learning.
